While we love to cater to adventure seekers looking to fight a 400-pound marlin or zipline through the jungle, we know some people come on their Costa Rica vacation looking to relax. That’s why we offer a few relaxing activities for the person who prefers a cold drink on a hot beach to a hike in the mountains.
Some people will say there is nothing quite as relaxing as a day of fishing, but that depends on what type of fishing you’re doing. A day of offshore fishing in Costa Rica may not be the most relaxing experience, especially if you’re reeling in mighty marlins or strong mahi-mahi (dorado). Inshore fishing is likely to be a more relaxing experience, with grouper and snapper on the line that don’t weigh over 100 pounds!
Even if you don’t want to go fishing during your Costa Rica vacation, you may still want to get out on a boat. And considering you’re right on the ocean in Tamarindo, you may as well enjoy the water, right? Well, perhaps a sunset cruise on a smooth gliding catamaran is more your speed. On board a 60-foot catamaran, you can take in the Guanacaste coast in style. This all inclusive trip includes beer, liquor, soft drinks, and a light lunch. Enjoy the ocean views from the deck with cocktail in hand, or get in the water for some snorkeling, SUP, kayaking, and swimming. Besides taking in the awe-inspiring sunset, you may catch a glimpse of dolphins, leaping mantas, turtles, and even whales at the right time of year. This is the ultimate sunset cruise and a “must do” when visiting Tamarindo.
Speaking of sunset, why not take in the end of day majesty from atop a gentle steed? Our horseback riding tours will take you on a gentle and relaxing tour of the surrounding beaches, the tropical dry forest, and the picturesque open ranges. This tour is gentle and safe enough for all ages and is definitely a peaceful way to take in all the sights and sounds of nature.
If you find the sights and sounds of nature to be particularly relaxing then we suggest two of our tours that will immerse you in the most peaceful sounds in nature (besides the sound of waves) – birds. Our bird watching tour will delight your senses with Costa Rica’s broad range of tropical winged mammals. There are over 900 species of birds in Costa Rica, ranging from small song birds, to large wading birds, to the unique toucan and the elusive quetzal, it truly is a bird lover’s paradise.
You will also see an abundant array of birds on our riverboat tour, which take you down the Tempisque River in Palo Verde National Park. Sit back and relax as our shuttle driver takes you to the park, which is just over an hour from Tamarindo. You can sit comfortably on the steady tour boat while gliding along the slow moving river as your guide points out majestic macaws and egrets, as well as crocodiles and monkeys. The tour is completed with a traditional Costa Rican lunch and an opportunity to check out native Guaitil pottery made by the Chorotega indigenous community.
While the sight of sunsets and sounds of birds and waves are indeed relaxing, nothing beats a spa day! But what if you didn’t have to give up the sights and sounds of nature during your spa treatments? We call this the ultimate in luxury and relaxation. You can choose from three open air spa treatments, including a full body massage or a mani/pedi, and a body wrap in volcanic mud, a chocolate body scrub, or a rejuvenating cucumber lime facial. Top this off with a soak in an Indonesian-style bath in milk or fresh fruit and flowers, all while overlooking the Pacific Ocean and tropical forest. Believe us when we say the stress will melt away! This treatment includes a gourmet lunch and drink that will leave you feeling like royalty of the day.
