Riverboat & Pottery Farm Tour – Tempisque River & Guaitil, Guanacaste
A two-hour boat ride on the Tempisque River along the edge of Palo Verde National Park, one of the best wildlife corridors in the country. Keep your eyes on the banks and the branches: monkeys, iguanas, scarlet macaws, anteaters, crocodiles and caimans all turn up here, and they are often just sitting there in plain sight. The boat is covered and unhurried, so every age gets a good look.
Afterwards you sit down to a traditional Costa Rican lunch, then carry on to the pottery village of Guaitil, where families still shape, paint and fire Chorotega pottery by hand the way it has been made here for centuries. You see the whole process, and you can take a piece home.
